Basic Christian Community

BCC was founded as part of the renewal of Church activities. According to Vatican II, Church is the People of God. Based on this reality, the participation of the lay people in the functioning of the Church was given more prominence. Thus through the introduction of the BCC, the lay people are given much importance in the grass root level functioning of the Church.
BCC plays vital role in deepening Christian faith, nurturing and sharing it and above all in witnessing it. BCC provides opportunity for every individual to grow according to one’s own capabilities and talents.
BCC aims at bringing unity among the Catholics in living their faith and leas the people of God after the example of the Early Christian Community of the Apostolic period. The sense of sharing and sacrifice for the sake of the neighbor is to be nurtured in BCC through mutual understanding, mutual acceptance, mutual cooperation and filial life style.

Solemn Holy Eucharist is celebrated on that day for which the concerned BCC unit will prepare well for the memorable spiritual celebration. Every BCC unit prepares an introduction for the Holy Mass celebrated in honour of their Patron Saint. Besides this, prayer of the faithful and offertory procession etc are organized. In the evening the members of the particular BCC unit would gather together in one of the families in order to celebrate the feast with a prayer service and a get together programme. In the get together programme, they have agape and the children in the unit perform cultural entertainments. This also acts an opportunity for the children to exhibit their talents and grow in their personal abilities. Such gatherings are made more meaningful by the presence of the Parish Priest who would talk about the particular Patron saint and enlighten the members of the BCC unit about their patron.
